Superplastic Superforming

Superplastic Superforming is a high temperature strain rate controlled gas pressure forming process. The materials used are capable of achieving equivalent thickness strains in excess of 300% at low strain rates. The process can achieve highly complex shapes in sheet or tube and can incorporate tool movement to achieve features undercut to die-line. The Superplastic Superforming process is capable of achieving component volumes of 3,000/yr.

Maximum size of part

Metric 3m x 2m x 1m . Thickness range 0.5mm up to 6.35mm thick.

US          10’ x 5’ x 3’ Thickness range 0.020”up to 0.250” thick

  • Forming oven is pressurised and heated to 500 degrees Celsius
  • Air pressure forces sheet into the tool
